Print a test page by Epson printer series

Epson EcoTank (ET)

Home → Maintenance → Nozzle Check. After refilling tanks, run Head Cleaning then Power Cleaning if needed, and print our colour test to confirm ink flow.

Epson Expression (XP)

Setup → Maintenance → Nozzle Check on the control panel. Use our colour and photo-quality checks to verify small-format photo output.

Epson WorkForce (WF)

Home → Setup → Maintenance → Print Head Nozzle Check. For WorkForce Pro run Head Cleaning, then our B&W test for sharp document text.

Epson SureColor (P / F / T)

Use the printer menu → Maintenance → Nozzle Check. Print our colour test on Letter/A4 to spot-check colour balance before large jobs.

Epson Expression Photo

Run a nozzle check from Maintenance, then print our colour test to verify the extra photo ink channels are all firing correctly.

Epson Stylus (legacy)

Use Epson Status Monitor → Maintenance → Nozzle Check on your computer, or the printer's ink/maintenance button combo for a self-test.

Epson prints a test page but won't print documents?

If your Epson printer prints this test page but won't print your documents, the hardware, ink and connection are all fine — the problem is software-side. Work through these fixes in order:

  1. Restart the Print Spooler: open services.msc, right-click Print Spooler → Restart.
  2. Set your Epson printer as the default in Settings → Printers & scanners.
  3. Clear the print queue of any stuck or errored jobs.
  4. Reinstall the latest Epson driver from the Epson website.
  5. Test from a different app (Notepad) to rule out an application-specific fault.
  6. For network printers, confirm the Epson printer's IP address hasn't changed.

Epson printer diagnostic tips

Epson nozzle check

Printer control panel → Maintenance → Nozzle Check, or Epson Status Monitor → Maintenance → Nozzle Check. Prints a grid that shows any blocked ink channels.

Print head cleaning

Epson Status Monitor / Epson Printer Utility → Head Cleaning. Note: each cleaning cycle uses ink from all cartridges — avoid running more than 3 cycles consecutively.

Power Cleaning (EcoTank)

For stubborn clogs, Epson EcoTank models offer a Power Ink Flushing feature under Maintenance. It uses more ink but forcefully clears dried nozzles.

Epson print-head alignment

Maintenance → Print Head Alignment. Corrects vertical banding and horizontal misalignment, especially important after replacing the print head.

Epson Printer Test Page — FAQ

How do I print a test page on an Epson printer?

Click Print Test Page above — it works on every Epson model. You can also open Maintenance on the printer's control panel (or Epson Status Monitor / Epson Printer Utility on your computer) and select Nozzle Check to print Epson's built-in grid pattern.

How do I run a nozzle check on an Epson EcoTank?

Press the Home button, go to Maintenance → Nozzle Check, then press Start. The printer prints a ladder/grid pattern — any broken or missing segments indicate a blocked nozzle that needs cleaning.

How do I clean Epson print heads?

Open Epson Status Monitor or the Epson Printer Utility, go to Maintenance and click Head Cleaning, or use Maintenance → Head Cleaning on the printer. Run a nozzle check after each cleaning. Repeat up to 3 times; if gaps remain use Power Cleaning.

My Epson EcoTank has ink but prints blank — why?

Even with a full tank, Epson EcoTank printers can develop dried or air-locked nozzles, especially after weeks of inactivity. Run 2–3 head cleaning cycles, then a Power Cleaning, printing a nozzle check after each one until the pattern is complete.

Does this page work with Epson SureColor wide-format printers?

Yes. The test page prints on any Epson model including SureColor, Expression Photo, WorkForce Pro and ET EcoTank. The download is a real, print-ready PDF (use Letter or A4 for SureColor) — not a screenshot or HTML file.

What does Epson error 0x97 mean and can I fix it?

Error 0x97 is a fatal internal hardware error, usually a failed main board or print head. Turn the printer off for a few minutes and back on — if it clears, great. If it returns repeatedly, the printer typically needs a mainboard/print-head service and may not be economical to repair.

What is the Epson 'ink pad at the end of its service life' message?

This means the internal waste ink pad that absorbs cleaning ink is full. It can be temporarily reset with the Epson Adjustment Program / ink pad reset utility, but for a lasting fix the waste ink pad should be replaced by a service centre.

My Epson prints a test page but won't print documents — why?

If the test page prints but documents don't, the printer hardware and ink are fine and the issue is software-side: restart the Print Spooler, set the Epson printer as default, clear stuck jobs, and reinstall the latest Epson driver.

Is the Epson test page download a real PDF?

Yes. The Download PDF button generates a genuine vector, print-ready PDF (A4, Letter or Legal) containing CMYK blocks, grayscale gradients, alignment marks and multi-size text — ideal for a full Epson nozzle and colour check.
